Let me start this review with how I use all-in-one beard trimmer/shaver combos: I use them for trimming and for shaving (shocking, I know). What I expect from these devices is a decent shave--not a close shave, but a decent one, and the trimmer(s) just need to do their jobs.
I've gone through a number of beard trimmers over the last couple of decades, and when the battery on my last one gave up its ghost (after several years of faithful service), I began searching for a good replacement.
The first trimmer I tried as a replacement was a Remington pg360. I chose a Remington because its predacessor was a Remington, and I was very happy with that device. I wish I could say the same for the new one.
After two days of very painful shaves--whiskers being pulled out instead of shaved off--the battery lost its charge. To put things in perspective, my previous trimmer could go for two weeks of trimming and shaving without a recharge, and no whisker pulls. That was it for the new Remington... I returned it, but not before doing a lot of research into cordless beard trimmer/shaver combos.
Through all of this research I discovered the Wahl Lithium Ion All-In-One trimmer/shaver combo.
I can say that without a doubt this is not only the best trimmer I've ever had, but also the best electric shaver! Its dual foil shaver provides a good close shave, and it is actually wide enough to get the shave done relatively quickly.
The trimmers work just as well as any trimmer should, and this shaver comes with three varieties: hair/neck, beard, and ear/nose. These all work very well and come with several different detachable guides to select the type and length of trim you'd like.
The battery life on this device is also amazing. I've been using it every day for almost three months--both shaving and trimming, and I've only had to charge it once. The Lithium Ion battery not only lasts way longer than anything I've previously used, but it also has quick charge feature so that if you do manage to run it down in the middle of a shave, you just plug it in for 1 minute and get another 4-5 minutes of shave time out of it.
As if that's not enough, the battery also gives this electric razor more torque than its conventional counterparts. That's really great for areas like the chin, where the volume of whiskers gets a lot heavier.
Are there any drawbacks to this razor? There are a couple, but they are relatively minor.
First, it doesn't include a carry-case. This was not a problem for me, as I already have a couple.
Second, the guides can be difficult to attach and detach. What I've ended up doing is leaving one "permanently" attached to one of the trimmer heads, and left the other trimmer head open. This works well for me, and likely will for most guys.
Good Recommendations Summary:
I recommend the Wahl Lithium Ion All-In-One Trimmer. This is the best trimmer/shaver combo I've used in 20 years. The battery life is great, the electric razor head gives a close shave, and the trimmer attachments provide more than enough variety.
If that's not enough for you, the price point on this device in amazing. It's less than $25.00! For the quality you get out of this device, that's an amazing value.
